One day an internet friend sent me an interesting email. She said she had joined an online forex membership site and she was being sent “forex signals” that told her exactly when to buy and when to sell on the foreign exchange. She said that so far she was up more than ,000 from an original investment of 00. She said she had more than quadrupled her money in 5 weeks.

I joined up soon afterward and we both started networking with others who were involved in forex trading. We asked a lot of people how they had gotten involved in forex trading and how they were doing. Our ad hoc research indicated that there is a WIDE variation in how successful people are with forex trading.

We both decided that the reason there is so much variation in success is because the subject of forex does attract a lot of scam artists. Because almost everyone wants to make money so people often get taken on info books that don’t help and software that doesn’t work. In fact, some of it actually steers you in the wrong direction because the person who wrote it or designed it isn’t a real expert. Also, there are a lot of people who try to trade on the foreign exchange completely independently. Some of these people have been successful in other types of trading but the foreign exchange works very differently. Mind you, our survey was not scientifically conducted but from all the information we gathered, it seemed these independent people seemed to lose the most.

Unfortunately, all the scam artists have tainted the reputation of trading on the foreign exchange market. However, forex trading can be VERY profitable. We have proven this to ourselves repeatedly both in demo accounts and using real money. In fact, it is quite easy make significant gains if you receive the right signals from the right person.

My friend was lucky to have stumbled on a very reputable forex trader who was providing the signals. She was also smart to start out with a demo account so she could test the signals she was being sent.

If you want to make real money in forex trading, I highly recommend you start out with a demo account and subscribe to a system where you can get signals from someone with a sterling reputation in this type of trading. Then test the signals they send BEFORE you invest any real money.

I am very thankful to my friend for turning me on to this very profitable method of trading and most of all for showing me how to do it in a safe way.

Make sure to make practice trades for the entire time you have the account.

When your 30 days is up and if you feel comfortable with what you did on the demo then you can set up a real account for just 0. This is the minimum but you can open it up with much more. However, it’s not recommended for beginners to open with more than 0. You can even hire a broker if you want to so that you don’t have to make the trades yourself.

If you do decide to hire a broker make sure that you talk to a few so that you can find one that you feel will work best for you. Understand they will be in control of your money so you want someone you think will be trust worthy and willing to bid according to your wishes.

For beginners in forex trading, the market can seem like a complicated puzzle. You may not know how to start or what to do when you do get started. Maybe you have invested money with a forex broker and don’t know how to move it. This basic primer on order types should help clear up some of the confusion.

An order is the command made by an investor for a broker to switch into another currency. These orders usually are made as the result of a changing market or predictions in data that suggest that a particular currency is on the verge of gaining or losing value. To best capitalize on this shift, investors place an order with their forex broker. Here are a few different types of orders:

Market Order: Simply an FX trading order designed to buy or sell at current market price.

Stop-Loss Order: A pre-set order that is meant to cut off losses at a specific level. The investor tells the broker exactly when to bail out of a currency pair.

Limit Entry Order: An order to purchase below the market value at a specified level or sell above the market value at a specified level. This order is designed to take advantage of switching currencies at the moment they begin to lose value. A trader who initiates such an order predicts that the currency will reverse directions after that particular point, thus maximizing profit by buying or selling at that moment the currency hits that exact amount.

Stop-Entry Order: An order to buy above the market value or sell below the market at a specified price. This order is made when the forex trader believes a currency will continue in the same direction, meaning it is safe to buy if it is moving up and needs to be sold if it is falling.

OCO Order: The One Cancels Other order is meant to take the place of another order if executed, essentially canceling the other. This overrides previous orders made with the forex broker.

GTC Order: A Good ‘Til Cancelled order will remain in the market until it is either filled or cancelled.

With this understanding of basic forex resources, you should have a better idea of how to invest your money. Knowing the specific order types is a good first step, but the next move is to find a forex practice account with which to get started. Practice accounts allow people interested in forex trading to try their hand at investing in the market without risking their actual money, making it safer to learn.
