Networking is one of the best ways to meet a celebrity. You would be amazed at who can help you. You just have to let everyone know, discretely, that you want an invite to the particular occasion. But don’t tell everyone that you have a huge crush on the celebrity. That is the first step to looking like an idiot. Find a reason to be where the celebrity will be.

Keep your eyes open… especially at airports. My son spotted Michael Moore waiting for a plane, casually walked up to him and simply said that he liked his work. That left the ball in Moore’s court. He could brush him off, or stop for a quick chat with a fan. Moore opted for the quick chat. My son was impressed and has probably sung Moore’s praises to everyone he knows. Good publicity if you ask me.

Do your homework. If the celebrity is appearing at a taping and an audience is allowed to watch the filming, there is a good chance that the  celebrity will stick around long enough to sign autographs. It’s the perfect time to say hello, but whatever you do, don’t spook the star. To him, you are a complete stranger. Be polite, say a few words and then move on.

Celebs have to get their haircut too. I’m telling you this because my son is a hairstylist and he runs into the rich and famous on a regular basis. That said, he does work for a high end salon. Do your research and try to find out where “your” celebrity gets his hair cut. Magazines always drop info like this. Book yourself an appointment and start a conversation with the stylist. You just never know who might have been in before you.

Keep your eyes on the latest movies and who is in them. You might have actually gone to school with a kid who grew up to be drop dead gorgeous and has broken into films. Sounds too good to be true? Well it’s not. I actually volunteered at the school where Tamara Hope of Shall We Dance and Manson to name a few,  attended. And even more amazing… I actually taught her creative writing! The world is a lot smaller than we ever imagined.
